Golden Mystery Shines in Mongo Queen

Farnsworth Stables LLC’s Golden Mystery dueled early through fractions of :21 4/5 for the quarter and :44 2/5 for the half mile, before asserting her authority and drawing off to a three-length win in the $60,000 Mongo Queen Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday.

Ridden by Angel Serpa, Golden Mystery covered the six furlongs over a fast main track in 1:09 flat and paid $13.20, $5 and $4.  D’cats Meow completed the $49 exacta and returned $3.40 and $3.  It was 2 ¾ lengths back to Winning Image, who paid $5.60 to show.  Hour Glass, the odds-on favorite in the field of six fillies and mares, checked in fourth.

“She’s really been doing well,” said winning trainer Juan Carlos Guerrero.  “We were confident going into this race that she’d run the way she did.  The whole thing with her is just to keep her happy.  Once you do that, she does the rest.”

Golden Mystery was making her first start since June 11 and for Guerrero.  From six starts this season, she sports a pair of victories and is now six for 24 lifetime.  The 5-year-old mare by Awesome Again out of the Saint Ballado mare Mysterious Angel has earned $217,773.
