Providing jockey Flavien Prat with his second victory on the day of the 2021 Breeders’ Cup Championships, Irish-bred Going Global out-finished Zofelle to win the Grade 2, $300,000 Goldikova Stakes on Saturday at Del Mar.

Going Global, second choice at 5-2 among a field of eight older fillies and mares, triumphed by a length and one-half in 1:34.53 for the flat mile over the infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course. Zofelle was a half-length in front of the even-money favored Princess Grace who set the pace into the stretch before tiring.

Going Global, a daughter of Mehmas trained Phil D’Amato, returned $7.60 after her seventh win in eleven efforts. First money was $180,000.

“I loved the position all the way around,” D’Amato said. And when Flavien swung her outside in the stretch she really hit a great stride. This is a big step up, going against older fillies and mares, and she handled it beautifully.”

Prat also won the afternoon’s first race aboard Dicey Mo Chara.

“We were running well all the way,” said Prat, whose 73 stakes wins at Del Mar rank 10th-most in track history. “She was comfortable. When I took her out, she showed me a good turn of foot. When she finished she still had something in the tank.”

The winning owners are managing partner Michael Nentwig and Michael Dubb, Saul Gevertz and Ray Pagano.
