Gitchee Goomie Works for Yaddo

Consistent New York-bred turf filly Gitchee Goomie turned in a half-mile work Thursday morning in preparation for a start in next Friday’s 1 1/16-mile Yaddo for state-bred fillies and mares. The daughter of City Zip, 4-6-1 from 12 lifetime starts, covered the distance in 49.54. She exits a half-length defeat to Chorus Music in the Irish Linnet overnight stakes at Saratoga on July 24.

“She doesn’t really need much since she just ran,” said Rick Violette, Jr. who trains the 4-year-old for Patsy Symons. “She’s in good order. She’s a neat filly. She just always shows up. I mean, look at her [Beyer Speed Figure] numbers – it’s 86, 85, 87, 87, 88, 88 – it’s just amazing. She’ll show up.”

Violette is bidding for his fourth Yaddo victory, having taken the 2010 edition with Meriwether Jessica, the second division in the 2005 running with Kate Winslet, and the 1985 renewal with Tall Glass O’Water.

“When I won it [with Tall Glass O’Water] for Mr. Vanderbilt, it was run on the dirt,” Violette said. “And that filly broke Pat Day’s maiden at the meet, he was something like 0-for-40.”
