Giant Patriot Heads Jamestown

A field of seven promising two year olds are set to go to post in the $50,000 Jamestown Stakes for Virginia-breds on Wednesday, the final day of Colonial Downs’ Thoroughbred summer meet.

Morning line favorite for the 5 ½ furlong turf race is Giant Patriot, who will break from the inside post with Rosemary Homeister, Jr. up. Trained by John Salzman, the Speightstown colt broke his maiden earlier this month at Colonial in a maiden special weight by 3 ¼ lengths. Giant Patriot was bred by Lady Olivia at North Cliff LLC and is owned by Mohan Enterprises, Inc.

Second choice at 3-1 is Last Out of Panama, an unraced Todd Pletcher trainee. Bred by Edward P. Evans, the More Than Ready colt has had several works at Saratoga this summer but will be experiencing a race for the first time. Past Out of Panama will break from the third post with Horacio Karamanos up.

Secret Ride is the 7-2 third choice. Bred by James S. Carter and owned by Vinery Stables, the Silver Train colt broke his maiden last month at Churchill Downs by 7 ¾ lengths. Steve Asmussen trains, and Victor Lebron has the mount.

The 5-1 fourth choice is Simmstown, a Limehouse colt who was bred by Audley Farm Inc. Trained by Darrin Miller, Simmstown ran third in a maiden special weight at Churchill Downs last month after being bumped at the seven sixteenths pole. James Vail will ride the Silverton Hill, LLC colt.

Rounding out the rest of the field are two winning fillies, Latika and Pink Pallet, and Bryan Baker’s Valter, who finished fifth in the Chenery Stakes earlier this month.

The Jamestown Stakes is set to go to post at 7:16 PM as the eighth race of nine on Colonial Downs’ final 2010 Thoroughbred card.
