Gets Jets to Make 3-Year-Old Debut Saturday at Oaklawn
New York-bred stakes winner Get Jets is scheduled to make his 3-year-old debut in a conditioned allowance race Saturday at Oaklawn, trainer Tony Dutrow said.
Dutrow said he hopes the 1 1/16-mile race, which would be Get Jets’ first start around two turns, first outside New York and first against open company, is a steppingstone to the $900,000 Rebel Stakes (G2) March 19 at Oaklawn.
A chestnut son of the recently deceased Scat Daddy, Get Jets won 2 of 3 starts last year – all against New York-breds – including the $250,000 Sleepy Hollow Stakes Oct. 24 at Belmont Park in his last start.
“All good, all good,” trainer Tony Dutrow said after training hours Tuesday morning. “We just felt like he’d run three times, and he is obviously better than average, so we gave him a little break there to him ready for a 3-year-old campaign. The horse, knock on wood, has always been great.”
Get Jets has had six published workouts since Dec. 30 in advance of his 3-year-old debut. The first two were recorded on Fair Hill’s all-weather surface, the last four at Oaklawn.
Dutrow said last month that Get Jets would be ready to run in mid-February.
“He’s not going to be 100 percent,” Dutrow said. “You don’t want them being 100 percent in February, but he’s ready to go.”
Get Jets, who races for Team D (David Speziali), was a $300,000 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s April 2-year-old in training purchase. He won his Aug. 19 career debut at Saratoga before finishing second in the $150,000 Bertram F. Bongard Stakes Sept. 27 at Belmont Park.
“What I’m hoping is he can go to the Rebel,” Dutrow said.
The Rebel is Oaklawn’s final major prep for the $1 million Arkansas Derby (G1) April 16.
