Get Stormy Suffers Cuts in Baruch

Grade 2 Bernard Baruch Handicap runner-up Get Stormy emerged from the race somewhat worse for wear, suffering a cut just above his right hind hock when another horse clipped his heel going into the clubhouse turn.

“Somebody clipped him and peeled him like a tomato – about four layers of skin,” said trainer Tom Bush. “Ramon [Dominguez] came back and told me to look at the replay after the race.  He said, ‘I couldn’t tell you for sure, but he either lost his footing on the soft turf or he clipped heels.’ Ramon said he was nice and relaxed going into the turn, but after that happened he just grabbed the bit and wouldn’t let go.”

In the Baruch, Get Stormy led at every call before yielding in the stretch to Turallure, missing his chance to win a second consecutive running of the Grade 2, $200,000 turf race. Bush was just happy the damage to Sullimar Stable’s dual grade 1 winner was relatively superficial.

“We feel very, very lucky,” said Bush. “We’ll take the luck.”
