Get Serious on course for Monmouth Stakes

Get Serious, who finished last as the 17-10 favorite in last Saturday’s Elkwood Stakes, is still on course to run in the $250,000 Monmouth Stakes (G3) at a mile and an eighth on the grass here on June 12.

The 7-year-old son of City Zip did not seem to appreciate the fast dirt strip he encountered when the Elkwood came off the turf.

“We’re hoping he just hated the dirt that day,” said trainer Pat McBurney. “He came out of it acting good and feeling fine, so we’re still planning to run him in the Monmouth Stakes.”

Get Serious won the nine-furlong Monmouth last year, but ran fifth in the 11-furlong United Nations. He came back to win the mile and a sixteenth Oceanport and one-mile Red Bank stakes.
