Georgie's Angel Seeks Better Result
After showing tremendous promise winning
the Grade 3 Schuylerville on July 22 at Saratoga Race Course, Georgie's Angel found the Grade 1 Spinaway a bit too tough in her subsequent
start as she finished fourth.
The daughter of Bellamy
Road will attempt to regain her winning form Sunday when she takes on
four other runners in the Grade 3, $100,000 Tempted, a six-furlong race
for 2-year-old fillies at Belmont Park.
Trainer Todd
Pletcher sent Georgie's Angel through a slow four-furlong work in 52.67
seconds on September 18 and then stepped it up in preparation for the
Tempted.
"It was designed as a slow work," Pletcher said, "then
she breezed back in company Sunday and went in 48.22 and went well. I
didn't think she got a wonderful trip in the Spinaway. She was kind of
stuck down inside and didn't seem to fire her 'A' race. We hope to
change her post position. We'd like to be toward the outside."
Georgie's
Angel, the 8-5 second choice on the morning line, drew post position 4
for the Tempted, which previously was run as a one-mile race at Aqueduct
but cut back this year to six furlongs at Belmont Park. Pletcher said
he does not see Georgie's Angel as a possible Breeders' Cup entrant,
but, rather, is just hoping to get back on track.
"We're
just focused on the Temped and we'll see how that goes," he said.
"Hopefully, she runs so well we have to reconsider where we are. We're
optimistic that at some point she might stretch out."
Trainer
Eddie Kenneally's Select Cat, 4-1, drew the inside post for the race.
Recently transferred from the barn of Pletcher, the daughter of Tale of
the Cat broke her maiden by 5 ½ lengths in a five-furlong race July 25
at Saratoga in the slop and then finished third in the Sorority on
September 5 at Monmouth Park.
"She's been with us since
we shipped down from Saratoga [on September 7]," said Tom Morley, an
assistant for Kenneally. "She's done one piece of work for us and worked
very well. We'll take our chances and see where we're at. She's been
doing good."
Two runners were supplemented to the
Tempted: 7-5 favorite Perennial Song, unbeaten in two starts at Parx
Racing for trainer Tony Dutrow, enters off a three-length allowance
victory at 5 ½ furlongs; Believe You Can, 6-1, winner of her past two
starts at Delaware Park for Larry Jones, runs off a six-furlong
allowance score.
Colormesaichi, 15-1, fourth in the Sorority at Monmouth, completes the field. She is trained by Terri Pompay.
