Danny Lopez’s Geeky Gorgeous set a pressured early pace before kicking clear of Salamera and all the rest to win the $75,000 Regret Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday by 4 ½ lengths.

With Angel Serpa along for the ride, Geeky Gorgeous covered the six furlongs over a fast main track in 1:09 3/5 and returned $3 and $2.10 with no show wagering in the field reduced by scratches to four runners.  Salamera completed the $4.80 exacta and paid $2.10 to place.  Ms. Cruisen’ checked in third with Who Needs rounding out the field.

“The one (Salamera) got off a little slow, and that made it easy for my horse,” said Lopez, who also conditions Geeky Gorgeous.  “She just galloped around there.  At the 3/8ths pole when she went by the one horse I knew it was all over from there.”

A 5-year-old New Jersey-bred mare by Devil His Due from the Pure Prize mare Thatholeinmypocket, Geeky Gorgeous has won nine of her 18 lifetime outings.  The homebred has now banked $343,440 for her owner.
