Geaux Rocket Ride, the Breeders' Cup Classic candidate who underwent surgery Sunday for a condylar fracture to his right front leg, was to be evaluated further on Wednesday.

Trainer Richard Mandella told Horse Racing Nation in a text message that Dr. Larry Bramlage of Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital was flying to California Wednesday to evaluate the 3-year-old colt.

Bramlage attended a safety meeting at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning after arriving in California.

A report posted briefly Wednesday indicated that Geaux Rocket Ride had been euthanized, but that report later was retracted.

Owner Pin Oak Stud acknowledged the expressions of sympathy that circulated on social-media platform X.

Pin Oak reported on Sunday that the colt wasn't "recovering as we hoped" after an unexpected response to the surgery.

On Tuesday, the farm posted that his condition was little changed but that he "has the heart of a warrior and continues to fight."

The injury occurred during a Saturday-morning work at Santa Anita. The initial surgery was performed by Dr. Ryan Carpenter.

Geaux Rocket Ride, a son of Candy Ride, earned an automatic bid to the Breeders' Cup Classic with a neck victory in the Grade 1 Haskell on July 22. In his most recent start at Del Mar on Sept. 2, he finished second by a neck by Arabian Knight in the Awesome Again (G1). Purchased for $350,000 as a yearling, his record is 5: 3-2-0 with earnings of $980,200.
