Anne Scott’s Galleon Mast, trained by David Fawkes and ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, gamely fought off the challenge of Galton down the stretch to win the $75,000 Mr. Steele.

The Mr. Steele was one of four stakes on the undercard as part of Saturday’s FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes Day.

Coming into the Mr. Steele off victories in the Eight Miles East and The Vid, Galleon Mast won by a neck over Galton after their stretch duel. An objection lodged by jockey Edgar Zayas against Mr. Steele and Gaffalione for interference down the stretch was not allowed.

Galleon Mast, who covered a good turf course in 1:41.26, has now won three of nine turf starts and has finished first, second or third in seven of those starts.

Galleon Mast ran fourth down the backstretch behind a :24.87, :49.67 pace set by My Point Exactly and drove to the front outside Galton entering the stretch before getting the best of the Michael Maker-trainee at the finish.

“I just thought Galleon Mast sat his usual spot and did his usual thing and waited until it was his time to go,” Fawkes said. “Tyler said Galleon Mast was looking around a little down the lane and got a little lost, but otherwise he ran a great race.”

Just an hour later, Stride Rite Racing Stable’s Renaisance Frolic drove inside the pacesetter Bon Raison down the stretch to win the $75,000 Armed Forces by three lengths.

Trained by Fawkes and ridden by Jose Batista, Renaisance Frolic covered the mile in 1:39.09 after the race was taken off the turf. Bon Raison held on for the place while Forever Taken was third. Renaisance Frolic, a 2-year-old homebred by Paynter, broke his maiden on the turf in his third start at Gulfstream before finishing seventh, beaten only four lengths, in the Fasig-Tipton Turf Showcase Sept. 6 at Kentucky Downs.

In other stakes races:

Miller Racing’s King’s Ghost, trained by Marty Wolfson and ridden by Jorge Ruiz, held off a challenge by favored Mizz Money entering the stretch to win the $75,000 Monroe. King’s Ghost covered the 1 1/16 mile stakes, moved to the main track, in 1:44.21

A 5-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper, King’s Ghost has won seven of 17 starts. The Monroe was her first on the main track. King’s Ghost won by three over Bonita. Mizz Money was third.

In the $75,000 Our Dear Peggy, Arindel’s homebred Blonde Bomber ran away from her opponents down the stretch to easily win the mile event over 6-5 favorite Homemade Salsa. Anabella Queen finished third.

A 2-year-old daughter of Fort Larned out of Girl Can Rock, Blonde Bomber has won two of her six starts while finishing second twice.
