Gallagher Sends Out Flamboyant in San Marcos
Trainer Paddy Gallagher will send out French-bred Flamboyant in the Grade II, $200,000 San Marcos Stakes going 1 ¼ miles over the Santa Anita turf course Saturday.
A winner of his most recent outing, Flamboyant took the Grade II San Gabriel Stakes, running late to beat Grade I winner Obviously by a neck. “He’s been working really, really well and I think he cares for this course,” said jockey Brice Blanc after the San Gabriel win. “I speak to him in French, it must work!”
With a Beyer Speed Figure of 104 for the San Gabriel win, Flamboyant registered his highest Beyer figure ever. Owned by David Bienstock and Charles Winner, Flamboyant is a 5-year-old gelding by the Sunday Silence stallion Peer Gynt. He is 18-4-3-4 overall with earnings of $398,368.
Owned and bred in Florida by Glen Hill Farm, Chiropractor, a 4-year-old gelding by Kitten’s Joy will look to return to form Saturday after a disappointing seventh place finish in the San Gabriel, his most recent outing. Up late to win the Grade I (turf) Hollywood Derby at Del Mar on Nov. 28 over favorite Om by a head, Chiropractor will be hoping for the same pace scenario as Flamboyant on Saturday.
