A pair of highly promising 2-year-old colts, Jerry Hollendorfer’s Galilean and Bob Baffert’s Cruel Intention, headline Saturday’s $200,000 Golden State Juvenile at Santa Anita. To be run at seven furlongs, the Golden State Juvenile has attracted a field of eight.

The Juvenile is a part of the lucrative Golden State Series, which is for eligible horses bred or sired in California.

CRUEL INTENTION

Owner:  Jungle Racing, LLC, LNJ Foxwoods and Nexus Racing Club            Trainer:  Bob Baffert
A $200,000 Barretts April purchase, this California-bred son of Smiling Tiger dusted four state-bred rivals going six furlongs here on Oct. 13, in what was his first start.  Off at 1-5, he ran like it, winning with the greatest of ease by 5 ½ lengths under Van Dyke, who is away on Saturday to ride at Churchill Downs. Out of the Pleasantly Perfect mare Perfect Feat, and obviously well connected, he’ll get a class test as he’s facing open company with Evin Roman aboard.

GALILEAN

Owner: West Point Thoroughbreds, Denise Barker and William Sandbrook
Trainer: Jerry Hollendorfer
A $600,000 Barretts 2-year-old in Training Sale purchase this past April, Galilean pressed the early pace and went on to an impressive first-out win in the Barretts Juvenile Stakes versus open company going 6 ½ furlongs on Sept. 22 at Los Alamitos. A Kentucky-bred son of Uncle Mo, out of the El Prado mare Fresia, Galilean has had four works since he ran, three of them locally, the most recent a five furlong move in 1:01 flat on Oct. 27—which ranked 26th of 61 at the distance. Ridden by Van Dyke in his debut, he’ll be handled by Rafael Bejarano on Saturday.
