Rock Talk Farm’s Fuzzy Muzzle shot through along the inside to push past Here’s to Mike in the final strides to post a neck victory in the $60,000 Dan Horn Handicap at Monmouth Park on Saturday afternoon.

With Antonio Gallardo as the pilot, Fuzzy Muzzle covered the flat mile over firm turf in 1:34.65 and paid $11.20, $4.60 and $2.80 in the field of nine New Jersey-bred colts and geldings.  Post-time favorite Here’s to Mike completed the $31.40 exacta and paid $3 and $2.20.  It was another half-length back to Oak Bluffs, who paid $2.60 to show.

“It looked like he dropped back a little bit on the far turn,” said winning trainer Jason Servis, who used to gallop the race’s namesake Dan Horn, “but once he kicked it in around the 1/8th pole it was just a matter of needing room.  I thought maybe today he’d be a little closer with the lack of pace in the race, but he’s a horse that needs to be covered up.  From here, we’ll come up with a plan to get him back to the Hesse (Charles Hesse III Handicap) in August.”

A 7-year-old gelding by Closing Argument form the Victory Gallop mare Hope’s Folly, Fuzzy Muzzle now has a record of 5-0-6 from 21 starts, good for earnings just over $200,000.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Sunday, June 19 – Father’s Day.  All gentlemen paying admission will receive a $2 betting voucher as sports tickets to local professional teams will be given away throughout the day.  Gates open at 11:30 a.m. with first post set for 12:50 p.m.
