Further Ado is favored in Kentucky Oaks-Derby double

A record $3,465,762 was bet on the Kentucky Oaks-Derby double with Kentucky Oaks winner Always a Runner keying $1 payouts between $32.30 on favored Further Ado and $1,292.76 on longest shot Ocelli.

The handle on the two-race bet was 4.6% over last year's record, which featured Kentucky Oaks winner Good Cheer and Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty on a $15.78 payout. The wager has handled at least $3-million on five occasions now, including three consecutive years and four out of the last five.

The record payout was in 2002 when Farda Amiga and War Emblem combined for a $1,395.40 payout, so that record is definitely safe for another year regardless of what happens in the Derby.

The Oaks-Derby double will pays are a slight aberration from current win odds with Further Ado being the 7-1 fourth choice in that market as of 11 a.m. EDT. Renegade is the win pool favorite at 5-1 with both Commandment and So Happy at 6-1 each.

In the Oaks-Derby double, Emerging Market, who would complete a Chad Brown-trained exacta, is the clear second choice at $34.83.
