Fulsome, who went off as the 3-5 favorite in the $300,000 Smarty Jones Stakes at Park on Tuesday, showed why, coming from behind to win the race down the stretch.

Fulsome, trained by Brad Cox and ridden by Florent Geroux, settled into fifth place in the six-horse field in the 1 1/16-mile race on the main track, well behind the pace set by Alonzo. The Into Mischief colt caught up around the far turn and took a wide trip to the front of the pack, winning by two lengths.

It was Fulsome’s first race since his third-place finish in the Indiana Derby (G3) on July 7. Before that race, the colt had won three consecutive races, including the Matt Winn (G3).

Fractions for the race were 23.12, 46.75, 1:11.83 and 1:38.79. Fulsome’s winning time was 1:45.57.

Alonzo finished second, while The King Cheek completed the trifecta. Fulsome returned $3.20 for the win.
