Fugitive Angel Strong Choice in Mrs. Revere

FUGITIVE ANGEL (Alphabet Soup), undefeated since joining the Jonathan Sheppard barn earlier this year, will attempt to win her second graded stakes and fourth stakes in succession Saturday in the $175,000 Mrs. Revere S. (G2) at Churchill Downs. The 1 1/16-mile grass test for three-year-old fillies drew a field of 11, with Fugitive Angel likely to be a strong favorite off a dominating 3 3/4-length score in last month's Valley View S. (G3) at Keeneland.

After placing only once in three starts last season for trainer Graham Motion, owner-breeder George Strawbridge transferred Fugitive Angel to Sheppard. Off a layoff of more than seven months, the bay rallied from 13th in a field of 14 to win a 5 1/2-furlong maiden at Colonial Downs in June, then stepped up to stakes company by taking a pair of Pennsylvania-bred events, the Russian Rhythm over the Penn National turf and the Malvern Rose over the Presque Isle Downs Tapeta.

In the Valley View, Fugitive Angel again found herself far back of the leaders down the backside, some 10 lengths behind the pacesetting ICE MIST (Forest Danger). Still eighth, six lengths behind, with a quarter-mile left, Fugitive Angel dashed home under Anna Napravnik to win in stylish fashion at odds of 9-2. The price is expected to be much shorter in the Mrs. Revere with Napravnik back to take the return call.
