There was no unique winner of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 on Thursday, leaving a jackpot carryover of $2,273,704.22 for Friday’s 11-race program. First race post time is 12:35 p.m.
Since last being hit for $76,799.38 by one lucky bettor on Jan. 13, the popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for 36 consecutive programs. The largest payout of the current Championship Meet was $262,634.84 on Jan. 7.
The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
A total of $396,157 was wagered Thursday into the Rainbow 6, which had multiple tickets sold with all six winners each worth $1,842.96.
If the Rainbow 6 continues to go unsolved, there will be a mandatory payout on March 26.
G1 Winner Mongolian Saturday Among 40 Nominees for March 12 Stakes
Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) winner Mongolian Saturday is among a total of 40 horses nominated to a pair of $75,000 turf sprint stakes on March 12, the Silks Run for 4-year-olds and up and the Captiva Island for fillies and mares 4 and older, each contested at five furlongs.
Based at Gulfstream Park with trainer Enebesh Ganbat, Mongolian Saturday headlines 22 nominees to the Silks Run. The 6-year-old gelding upset the 5 ½-furlong Turf Sprint at odds of nearly 16-1, closing last year running fifth in the Hong Kong Sprint (G1) Dec. 13, the best finish among U.S. horses.
Also nominated to the Silks Run are Grade 3 winners Amelia’s Wild Ride, who captured the Sunshine Millions Sprint Jan. 16; Power Alert, neck winner over Amelia’s Wild Ride in the Gulfstream Park Sprint Feb. 6; Pure Sensation and Something Extra, along with stakes winners American Sailor, Bold Thunder, Do the Roar, Fast Flying Rumor and Successful Native.
Multiple stakes winner Jewel of a Cat, with two wins and two thirds in four lifetime starts at Gulfstream, tops 18 horses nominated to the Captiva Island. Trained by Carlo Vaccarezza, the 6-year-old mare was most recently third behind Eclipse Award finalist Lady Shipman and fellow nominee Katie’s Kiss in the Ladies Turf Sprint Feb. 6.
Mississippi Delta and Zindaya, each multiple stakes winners unraced since last summer; stakes winners Aquinnah and Silver Sashay; stakes-placed Forest Funds and Late Spring; and Gagaoveryou, a winner of two straight races, are also among the nominees.
Savoy Stomp Captures 10th Race Feature
Team Valor International and Southern Equine Stable’s Savoy Stomp rolled to the lead on the outside around the far turn and pulled away to a four-length victory in the featured 10th race.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, the 4-year-old Medaglia d’Oro colt ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.79 over a fast main track in the $46,000 optional claiming allowance. It was the second start at the Championship meet for Savoy Stomp, stretching out after running fourth in a seven-furlong sprint Jan. 16.
The Dale Romans-trained pair of Tarpy’s Surprise and Jack Tripp finished second and third, respectively. Savoy Stomp’s favored stablemate Tennessee, a $1.15 million yearling purchase running for a $62,500 tag, wound up last in the field of six.
Who’s Hot: Jockey Javier Castellano and trainer Eddie Kenneally teamed up to win back-to-back races with Blame Dixie ($4) in the third and Gunderson ($3.60) in the fourth. Castellano picked up a third winner with Savoy Stomp ($7) in the 10th.
