Friday works: 13 graded-stakes winners are on the tab
Newgate, winner of the Grade 1 Santa Handicap in March, returned to the work tab Friday for trainer Bob Baffert.
After winning the Robert G. Lewis (G3) in February 2023, Newgate was off for the rest of the year. The 4-year-old Into Mischief colt returned in January and finished second in an optional-claiming allowance and in the San Pascual (G2) before his Big 'Cap score. He then was ninth in the Dubai World Cup in March, and he hasn't raced since.
Newgate had one published work in April but didn't return to the tab until Friday, when he went three furlongs in 34.6 seconds, fastest of eight at the distance.
