Freshman Sire Watch: Red-hot Vekoma foals have won 8 of 13

Vekoma started out hot winning with four of his first five starters, and the fast pace has only continued with his record standing at eight wins from 13 starters. The son of Candy Ride leads all freshman sires with eight wins, closely followed by Complexity with seven wins. In total, 51 freshman sires have totaled 273 starters to date.
Below are all of Vekoma's 13 starters to date, sorted with the winners at top. Not only have eight of the 13 won, a 62 percent win rate, but 11 of 13 (85 percent) have run in the money.
It will be interesting to see whether this type of streak can continue. So far, all 13 of Vekoma's starters have run at distances of five furlongs or less. This week, Vekoma has six more starters coming up, starting Monday at Horseshoe Indianapolis, and Fortuna Mia, who goes in the $225,000 Debutante Stakes at Churchill Downs on Sunday, will be Vekoma's first starter going farther than five furlongs.
