Free past performances for Saturday's Kentucky Derby preps

The first major Kentucky Derby 2019 prep, Saturday's Risen Star (G2), will be preceded minutes earlier by another intriguing points race in California, the El Camino Real Derby. Thanks to Brisnet, you can handicap them both with free past performances.

The El Camino Real Derby on synthetic goes at 6:45 p.m. ET at Golden Gate Fields. Note, of course, the synthetic track surface that can play more like turf than dirt. A prep race at a smaller circuit also means a class test for many of its local runners taking on Southern California shippers, among them Bob Baffert-trained Kingly, Mohaymen's full brother.

The Risen Star then goes at 7:02 p.m. ET at New Orleans' Fair Grounds, where War of Will is looking to back up his Lecomte Stakes (G3) score last month. But he'll have to do so in a full field and from the near-outside post. Consider what the favorite may have to do to establish early position -- and who could come running late to upset him.

In addition to providing recent running lines, Brisnet PPs rank contenders on speed and pace figures, plus assign running styles. Don't miss the ultimate comments, either, which point out key stats for each horse.
