Frank's Rockette shoots to stakes win in Gulfstream's Any Limit
Frank’s Rockette, second in a trio of prestigious graded events as a juvenile, became a stakes winner Saturday looking ready to climb back up the class ladder, finishing much the best in Gulfstream Park’s $75,000 Any Limit.
The Frank Fletcher homebred, trained by Bill Mott, found her footing early, moving between horses and to the lead where she stayed throughout the six-furlong event for 3-year-old fillies.
"She's been training well over the winter," Mott said. "She had a nice little rest, and this spot came up. It looked like a nice spot to come back in. She loved the track, and she ran well.
"I couldn't have asked for anything more."
Having opened up in 22.75 for the quarter mile, Frank’s Rockette established a length lead into the turn. She cut the half mile in 46.14, then turned back any rally by the second choice Sound Machine one asked in the stretch by jockey John Velazquez
Showing a nice late kick, Frank’s Rockette finished in 1:09.51 as the even-money favorite in a field of six. Sound Machine and Fujairah filled out the board.
A debut winner June 21 at Churchill Downs, Frank’s Rockette went on to finish second in each of the Adirondack (G2), Spinaway (G1) and Frizette (G1) on the New York circuit.
"That was tough to come in second, so today was really a joy," Fletcher said.
The daughter of Into Mischief is out of the Indian Charlie mare Rocket Twentyone. Fletcher said connections will look for a one-mile stakes spot before trying Frank's Rockette longer.
