Fortune Play on cruise control at Churchill

Heuristic Stable’s Fortune Play took the lead shortly after the break and cruised to a 2 ¾-length victory over Glowing Report to win the $46,410 Friday feature for fillies and mares at Churchill Downs.

 

Trained by John Booker and ridden by Freddie Lenclud, Fortune Play covered the seven furlongs on a fast main track in 1:22.60. The victory, which improved Fortune Play’s Churchill Downs record to 7-2-2-1, was worth $26,400 and increased the 5-year-old mare’s bankroll to $215,779 with an overall mark of 25-4-7-4. 

 

A Kentucky-bred daughter of Five Star Day, Fortune Play returned $14, $6 and $3.40. Glowing Report, ridden by Jon Court, returned $7 and $4.20 with favored Honchis’n Ponchis finishing another 3 ¾ back in third in the field of seven under Miguel Mena and paying $2.60 to show.
