Fort Erie Race Track in Canada has postponed the Rise Jim Stakes, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, until the week of July 27.

The $35,000 six-furlong sprint is for Massachusetts-bred 4-year-olds and upward. Six horses were entered for the race.

Antoinetta Culic, manager of marketing and media relations for the track, said the postponement was caused by "a domino effect of things. But ultimately, [the horses] weren't able to cross the border in time."

Only the horses and the van driver were crossing the border, she said, with local jockeys taking the mounts.

According to a news release from the track, the Massachusetts Thoroughbred Breeders' Association contacted Fort Erie in the fall to build a partnership that would allow Fort Erie to host Massachusetts-bred Thoroughbred races this year, after Suffolk Downs race track in Boston shut down at the end of last season.
