Formulaforsuccess Wins at Churchill Downs

Robert Trussell’s Formulaforsuccess took command after a quarter of a mile and fended off all challengers to win Sunday’s $53,382 Taylor’s Special Purse for three-year-olds and up by two lengths at Churchill Downs.

Trained by John Paul Pucek and ridden by Corey Nakatani, Formulaforsuccess covered the 1 1/8 miles on a firm Matt Winn Turf Course in 1:51.85.

The victory, the second in eight career starts for the 3-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Broken Vow, was worth $32,160. Formulaforsuccess, eighth in the Jefferson Cup (GIII) two weeks ago in his previous start, now has earned $74,458.

Formulaforsuccess returned $10.80, $4.20 and $3.40. Austons Sure Cure, ridden by Miguel Mena, finished two lengths back in second and paid $3.40 and $3. Favored Kabob was another 1 ¼ lengths back in third under Francisco Torres and paid $2.60 to show.
