Forecast prompts Santa Anita to move Saturday's races to Sunday
With a weather forecast calling for heavy rains through Saturday afternoon, Santa Anita canceled live racing on Saturday. The Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap and three other graded stakes will be shifted to Sunday, with first post time for a 10-race card at 3:30 p.m. EST.
A much more favorable weather scenario is in store on Sunday, as the forecast calls for sunshine and a high temperature of 62 degrees. Accordingly, the decision to move Saturday’s card to Sunday was done in consultation with Dennis and Robert Moore, who oversee Santa Anita track maintenance, as well as with officials from the California Horse Racing Board, Thoroughbred Owners of California, California Thoroughbred Trainers and Jockeys’ Guild.
The Santa Anita Handicap, Grade I Kilroe Mile (G1), San Felipe Stakes (G2) and the Buena Vista Stakes (G2) at one mile on turf will highlight what figures to be a tremendous afternoon of world-class racing on Sunday.
Additionally, races originally scheduled for Sunday will be drawn Thursday and carded on Monday, with regular first post time at 3:30 p.m. EST.
