Fly Lexis Fly joins Drysdale barn
Dual Peruvian Classic winner Fly Lexis Fly has arrived safely in the US for his proposed tilt at the Kentucky Derby on May 5.
The Badge Of Silver colt is northern hemisphere-bred, meaning he turned three on New Year's Day, and has been racing against older sourthern hemisphere-bred rivals, who have been three-year-olds since July 1, in the Peruvian Classics.
After initially contemplating sending his colt to trainer Angel Penna Jr, owner Oscar Peña changed course and shipped his stable star to the West Coast to US Racing Hall of Fame trainer Neil Drysdale.
Drysdale, who trained Hall of Famer A.P. Indy to win the 1992 Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby, Belmont Stakes and Breeders' Cup Classic, has nominated Fly Lexis Fly for the 75th running of the US$750,000 Santa Anita Derby on April 7.
