Saturday’s Grade 1, $1 million Florida Derby is the final of three races on the Gulfstream Park road to Kentucky Derby 2026. The 1 1/8-mile race at the Florida track offers 100-50-25-15-10 points to the top five eligible finishers.

A field of nine was drawn, and only six of them have been nominated to run in the Triple Crown races.  A different six of the 3-year-olds already ran on the Derby trail. Together they earned 155 qualifying points, and three of them were points-prep winners. Commandment and The Puma had victories in 50-point races in the Fountain of Youth (G2) and the Tampa Bay Derby (G3), respectively. Nearly got 10 points when he won the Holy Bull (G3) in January.

Here is a full-field analysis for the Florida Derby with the official track morning-line odds. It is scheduled as race 14 of 14 with post time set for 6:42 p.m. EDT.

1. Albus, 10-1. Yaupon – Riley Mott / Tyler Gaffalione – 3: 1-0-1 - $36,288. Albus broke his maiden in his third start, which was at Tampa Bay Downs a month ago when he beat a field of six by almost seven lengths going two turns as an odds-on favorite with first-time Lasix. He began his career as a 2-year-old with starts at Keeneland and Churchill Downs. Toss.

2. Chief Wallabee, 2-1. Constitution – Bill Mott / Junior Alvarado – 2: 1-1-0 - $117,600. Chief Wallabee made two starts this year at Gulfstream Park. He was a debut winner in January going seven furlongs against a field of eight that included The Puma, who went on to finish second in the Sam F. Davis and won the Tampa Bay Derby three weeks ago. Chief Wallabee moved to the Derby trail, where he missed the win by a neck in the Fountain of Youth. With 25 Derby points in hand, a top-three finish should get him a spot in the run for the roses. Win contender.

3. Wayne’s Law, 15-1. Tiz the Law – Amador Sanchez / Marcos Meneses – 5: 2-1-2 - $135,530. Wayne’s Law began his career with three starts at Gulfstream. He broke his maiden in his second try against Florida-breds and then won the Aventura going a mile against a field of four going the one-turn mile. At Delta Downs he finished third in the Jean Lafitte, which was run around two turns. Wayne’s Law's only race as a 3-year-old was in the Sam F. Davis, where he set the pace and finished second. That earned him 10 qualifying points, but he is not Triple Crown nominated. Toss.

4. Commandment, 5-2. Into Mischief – Brad Cox / Flavien Prat – 4: 3-0-0 - $403,539. Commandment was fourth in his debut in October at Keeneland as the favorite in a full field. He then was a winner by more than five lengths going seven furlongs at Churchill Downs. In his first race as a 3-year-old, he romped in the Mucho Macho Man by almost seven lengths. Moving onto the Derby trail, he won the stretch battle against Chief Wallabee to win the Fountain of Youth and the 50 Derby points. Flavien Prat gets the mount on the son of Into Mischief for the first time because regular rider Irad Ortiz Jr. opted to ride Renegade in the Arkansas Derby (G1). Brad Cox won the Florida Derby last year with Tappan Street. Win contender.

5. Redland Rebels, 15-1. Uncle Chuck – Patrick Biancone / Joel Rosario – 4: 1-1-0 - $104,500. Redland Rebels broke his maiden by almost seven lengths in his second start, which was on the turf at Gulfstream in August going a mile. The Florida-bred was away until January, when he set the pace in the Kittens Joy on the grass and finished second by a neck. He moved to the Derby trail in the Tampa Bay Derby, set the pace again and faded to fourth, which gave him 10 qualifying points. He is cross-entered in Saturday’s Arkansas Derby. Toss.

6. Nearly, 3-1. Not This Time – Todd Pletcher / John Velazquez – 4: 3-0-0 - $249,900. Nearly debuted in October at Aqueduct, where he ran last in a six-horse field. The Florida-bred liked the move to the Sunshine State, where he has three wins in a row at Gulfstream. His maiden score came in November against state-breds by more than nine lengths. His only race on the Derby trail was an almost six-length victory in the Holy Bull, where he pressed the pace and earned 20 qualifying points. Hall of Fame connections Todd Pletcher and John Velazquez dominated the Florida Derby this century. Pletcher has eight wins in this race going back to 2009, including in 2017 with the Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming. Velazquez won Gulfstream Park's signature race six times, including Orb and Always Dreaming, who went to victory on the first Saturday in May. Top pick.

7. Timeless Victory, 20-1. By My Standards – Ed Plesa Jr. / Jose Morelos – 6: 3-0-2 - $106,390. Timeless Victory was a debut winner in August on the Tapeta track at Gulfstream. He tried a stakes race on the grass to no avail in September. His last three races were on the main track under allowance conditions, and he won twice, including on March 1 going the Florida Derby distance of nine furlongs. Timeless Victory is not nominated for the Triple Crown. Toss.

8. The Puma, 9-2. Essential Quality – Gustavo Delgado / Javier Castellano – 3: 1-1-1 - $244,280. The Puma made his first start in the aforementioned maiden race with Chief Wallabee, where he had the lead in the stretch and ended up second. The son of Essential Quality moved to the Derby trail, where he finished third in the Sam Davis and won the Tampa Bay Derby three weeks ago. He has 50 qualifying points, which is enough to get in the 20-horse field on the first Saturday in May. Win contender.

9. Gregarious, 50-1, Mo Town – Jose Castro / Rajiv Maragh – 1: M-1-0 - $14,960. Gregarious is still a maiden with only one race. That was a nine-furlong maiden special weight where last month he set the pace and finished second in a six-horse field at 18-1. Toss.

Summary: The Florida Derby offers the 100-50-25-15-10 spread of Kentucky Derby qualifying points as these 3-year-olds make their last start before the Kentucky Derby. Commandment and The Puma have 50 and spots in the field already. The other four horses who are Triple Crown nominated will have to run well to get the points that they need.

Nearly got better and better as he had three open-length wins in a row at Gulfstream while stretching out in distance, reaching two turns for his victory on the Derby trail in the Holy Bull in January. The connections of Pletcher and Velazquez have 14 Florida Derby wins between them. The son of Not This Time needs to finish first or second on Saturday. Nearly is the top pick.
