Flightline stallion career could take off at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga
Flightline, the 2022 horse of the year who some called the best since Ghostzapper or this century or since Spectacular Bid after winning the Breeders' Cup Classic to cap a 6-for-6 career, will take the next step in his stallion career when yearlings from his first crop are offered Monday and Tuesday at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale.
Flightline stands at Lane's End Farm, beginning his career at the Farish family's farm near Versailles, Ky., in 2023 with an advertised stud fee of $200,000. He has 10 yearlings cataloged to the Saratoga sale, and, with one scratched, nine are expected to sell over the two-day sale. Lane's End is the consignor of two of his yearlings, with different sellers for each of the others.
Using advanced machine-learning techniques involving the sales and race results of all horses sold at the Saratoga sale since 2005 and the Keeneland September yearling sale since 1999, Horse Racing Nation has developed a proprietary prediction model for cataloged horses that predicts not only their sales price but also their value as a racehorse. These comparisons then allow for a value index to help sellers value their horses and buyers spend more efficiently.
It is no surprise that our models expect Flightline's first yearlings to be in incredible demand. Hip 34, a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Barnes out of the American Pharoah mare All American Dream, expected to bring the highest hammer price, possibly eclipsing even the seven-figure mark.
Consigned by Indian Creek, agent for breeders Jeff Drown and Don Rachel, this Flightline filly's fourth dam is the Grade 1 winner Spinning Round, dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Dream Supreme from the family of Grade 1 winner Majestic Harbor.
