Flavien Prat makes history with 7 wins Sunday at Aqueduct
Jockey Flavien Prat set a single-card record with seven wins from 10 mounts Sunday on the 11-race card at Belmont at the Big A that closed the fall meet.
Prat won races 2 through 7 in a row. He became the seventh rider to win six straight at a New York Racing Association track. Prat came one shy of Ramon Dominguez's record of seven consecutive over two cards Dec. 14-15, 2011.
Prat went 7-for-10 with three seconds. He never finished out of the exacta. Prat scored stakes wins with Bishops Bay in the Forty Niner (G3) and Cugino in the Red Smith (G2).
"It was a great day," Prat said. "I’m grateful to ride good horses that were doing good going into today. They all responded properly.
Prat finished second in the opener aboard Ruth in the Turnback the Alarm. He then rattled off six straight wins.
The streak began when Prat led a Chad Brown-trained exacta aboard Rebel Instinct in a one-turn mile maiden in race 2.
Race 3 saw another Brown-trained exacta with Prat leading aboard Every Vote Counts in a one-mile maiden over the inner turf.
In race 4, the Forty Niner (G3) going a one-turn mile on the main track, Prat and the Brad Cox-trained Bishops Bay fended off Nelson Avenue.
Prat secured his fourth straight win with Vibrant Express in a six-furlong New York-bred maiden claimer for trainer George Weaver in race 5.
He reached the winner’s circle in another Brown-trained exacta aboard Concurrently in a one-turn mile maiden in race 6.
In race 7, the 11-furlong inner turf Red Smith (G2), the streak appeared ready to end before Cugino battled back to put his nose in front.
With his sixth win, Prat equaled the record for most wins on a single New York Racing Association card. He became the 20th jockey to accomplish the feat.
"I really thought I had good mounts today and they've all been running well," Prat said. "When you win the first one and the second one, you get into a good groove - hopefully, it won't stop."
Prat finished a narrow second in the following race.
Prat stayed hot in race 10 with his fourth win for Brown aboard Growth Trajectory in a one-mile inner turf allowance. That secured the record seventh win.
In the finale, Prat finished second aboard Tuthilltown. The horse came a head back of the victorious Greyjoy in the six-furlong turf maiden for New York-breds.
Prat capped a memorable weekend that included wins in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile aboard Nysos and Filly & Mare Sprint aboard Splendora Saturday at Del Mar.
"I flew home late last night, but I had a chance to get a few hours of sleep. I felt good," Prat said.
