The 50th anniversary of Secretariat’s Triple Crown is celebrated in this pop-up episode of the Ron Flatter Racing Pod.

Hall of Famer Ron Turcotte, who rode Big Red to victory in the 1973 Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes, speaks in a new interview about his experiences that spring as well as his relationship with the late trainer Lucien Laurin.

Kate Tweedy, the daughter of Secretariat’s owner Penny Chenery, recalls her time as a college student who was there for all the important moments that year, big and small.

Tweedy’s co-author Leeanne Ladin, like Secretariat a native of Virginia, provides perspective as a lifelong rider who became a writer.

There are also clips from the 2010 news conference promoting the motion picture “Secretariat” featuring Chenery and actress Diane Lane.

The Ron Flatter Racing Pod via Horse Racing Nation is available via free subscription from Apple, Google, Spotify and Stitcher as well as at HorseRacingNation.com.
