First ReRun/Shapperdacapper.com Handicapping Benefit a Success
The first of many events sponsored by www.shapperdacapper.com in an effort to raise awareness and revenue for ReRun, Inc., got off to a strong start on Belmont Stakes day last Saturday. Four handicappers placed five $5 dollar bets on races that day with all proceeds from the wagers going to the Virginia based corporation designed to give former equine athletes a solid life after the races.
The foursome of handicappers started off slowly, but fortunately Chicago based Nicolle Neulist got things going with the last to first rally from three-year old filly Sweet Reason in the Acorn Stakes. The 9-1 Leah Gyarmati trained filly ran down the front runners late to get the donations to ReRun rolling a bit. The handicapping duo of Kristy and John Deyeso got their winning wagers rolling when the Bill Mott trained Close Hatches held off Princess of Sylmar to win the much anticipated Ogden Phipps Stakes at a mile and a sixteenth. The winner paid $7.80 and $3.50 to place as Nicolle was also able to capitalize once again with her place wager on Close Hatches.
As www.shapperdacapper.com editor-in-chief Scott Shapiro and fellow analyst Jason Perry narrowly missed a few solid scores for ReRun, Inc,, both the tandem of John and Kristy as well as Nicolle further cemented a very solid day with winning wagers in the featured Belmont Stakes. John and Kristy nailed the winner Tonalist and Nicolle cashed on Commissioner’s strong effort with a witty show bet. When the smoke cleared on a great racing day, Nicolle had earned ReRun $93.75 and the Deyeso’s a strong $51.10 for a total of $144.85.
