First Look: 6 graded stakes this week beyond Breeders' Cup
The Breeders' Cup dominates the racing conversation this week, but six graded stakes across three tracks offer solid action for horseplayers looking beyond Del Mar's championship showcase. Aqueduct hosts three graded stakes Sunday, Del Mar adds a turf stakes for fillies and mares Saturday on the Breeders' Cup undercard, and Woodbine features a pair of juvenile races on synthetic.
Last year's Grade 3 Forty Niner winner Coastal Mission returns to Aqueduct on Sunday looking to reclaim the form that carried him to victory 12 months ago. The 6-year-old gelding took the 2024 running over Nelson Avenue but has settled for minor placings in his two most recent starts.
For those mapping out their full Breeders' Cup strategy, our pre-entries breakdown has early analysis of all 14 championship races at Del Mar. The entries will be updated after Monday's post-position draw scheduled for 7:15 p.m. EDT.
For players seeking value away from the Breeders' Cup, these six graded stakes offer a chance to find overlooked opportunities at better prices.
