Final time is adjusted for Florida Derby after error detected
The winning time for Saturday's Grade 1 Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park was changed after an error was detected.
Equibase said in a Twitter post that the finish-line beam might have been inadvertently tripped before the horses reached the wire and that the original finish time of 1:48.51 was changed to 1:49.37.
The time for the final furlong was adjusted from 12.16 seconds to 13.02. None of the other fractional times for the race was adjusted.
Thoroughbred Daily News reported that Daily Racing Form's Beyer Speed Figure team caught the error, noticing that the original final fraction seemed too fast to be realistic. After the review of the final time, Forte's winning Beyer figure was adjusted from 98 to 95.
Todd Pletcher's colt earned 100 Kentucky Derby qualifying points for the win and now stands atop the leaderboard with 190 points. Last year's 2-year-old champion has won six of his seven starts.
Pletcher told the Gulfstream media team that Forte would remain in Florida "for at least a couple of weeks" before shipping to Kentucky.
