Final odds set for 2019 Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 4

In what could be a sign of things to come on the first Saturday in May, Pool 4 of the 2019 Kentucky Derby Future Wager closed Sunday evening with a cluster of horses vying for parimutuel favoritism in a final round of advanced wagering from Churchill Downs.

For the first time, individual horses' prices wound up shorter than the "All Other 3-Year-Olds" interest with Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Roadster leading the way at 6-1.

Game Winner, narrowly defeated by Roadster, closed as a co-second choice at 7-1 along with Florida Derby (G1) hero Maximum Security. the Wood Memorial (G2) winner Tacitus and Improbable, a main contender in next weekend's Arkansas Derby (G1), were next at 9-1.

Blue Grass Stakes (G2) winner Vekoma finished at 15-1, while the late-charging runner-up Win Win Win, settled at 21-1, well short of his 50-1 morning line odds entering the weekend.

Intriguing was the support for Anothertwistafate, the Grade 3 winner who will look to secure his spot in the Derby through a last-chance qualifier, the Lexington Stakes (G3). The son of Scat Daddy closed at 19-1. Bourbon War is a relatively short 32-1 despite sitting 21st on the Derby points leaderboard, already in need of defections to make the field.

All Other 3-Year-Olds, which encompasses any horse not represented as an individual, went down as an 19-1 shot.

According to Churchill Downs, total betting over the three days reached $500,407 compared to last year’s record of $543,010. Win betting was up from $339,036 in 2018 to $344,418 this year, but exacta wagering slipped from a record $203,974 to $155,989.

Churchill Downs handled $1,878,359 in future wagers since November, which just missed last year’s record of $1,893,353.
