As is usual for the first round of betting in the new year, "All Other 3-Year-Olds" closed as the favorite in Pool 2 of the 2019 Kentucky Derby Future Wager. But the individual top choice closed the gap.

More than $398,000 funneled into the win pool from Friday though Sunday evening, with bettors hammering sophomore horses not among the 23 interests offered in advance of the May 4 race at Churchill Downs down to 5-2.

That group includes Well Defined, winner of the Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3), as well as Dream Maker, whose 89 Beyer Speed Figure in a Fair Grounds allowance will springboard him to the Derby trail.

Among the individuals available in the Future Wager, Game Winner, the unbeaten champion nearing his season debut in the March 9 San Felipe (G2), closed at 5-1. Another Bob Baffert trainee, Grade 1 winner Improbable, was a co-7-1 second choice.

Hidden Scroll, also at 7-1, took a surprising amount of action. The Jan. 26 debut winner owns the crop's best Beyer Speed Figure but earned it over a sloppy, speed-favoring Gulfstream Park track. We'll learn more about the Bill Mott-trained son of Hard Spun when he runs back March 2 in the Fountain of Youth (G2).

Other Future Wager opportunities run from March 8-10 and April 5-7.
