Fiftyshadesofgold held off a strong rally by Milam to take the Eight Belles stakes at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Oaks day!

Fiftyshadesofgold was ridden to victory by jockey Mike Smith for trainer Bret Calhoun.

The three-year-old filly was bred in Texas by the late Clarence Scharbauer, and is owned by his estate. Scharbauer owned 1988 Kentucky Derby winner, Alysheba. Fiftyshadesofgold sported those familiar blue and white diamonds as she gamely held a late run by Milam.

Milam was ridden by jockey Jose Lezcano for trainer Eddie Kenneally. In third, two lengths back, was Cash Control, under jockey James Graham for trainer Steve Margolis.

The fillies completed the 7 furlongs in 1:22.5. Fiftyshadesofgold paid $6.20 to win.
