Fiftyfour Forever Wire Job Threat in NATC
A field of seven has entered Saturday’s $150,000 NATC Futurity Fillies Division at Monmouth Park and it appears the speed will be coming from the rail in Fiftyfour Forever. At least that’s what her trainer is hoping for when the septet breaks in the six-furlong test.
“When I was working her from the gate, she was unbelievable,” said Anthony Quartarolo, who conditions Fiftyfour Forever for owner Charles J. Palombini. “She just flew out of there. Then when we raced her, she broke just like in the mornings.”
Fiftyfour Forever has made one start, a winning one on Aug. 27 at Calder. In her debut she opened up a quick early lead, repelled a challenge and then opened up for a 2- ½ length score.
A few weeks after that maiden win, Fiftyfour Forever shipped north to Monmouth, where she worked an easy four furlongs on Sept. 18. Under Elvis Trujillo, the filly went in :50 3/5, which was exactly what the trainer wanted.
“I told Elvis just to go easy with her,” Quartarolo said. “She had a good work at Calder before we shipped her, so an easy work was what I was looking for. She’s ready.”
Installed at 7-2 on Brad Thomas’s morning line, Fiftyfour Forever will have Trujillo aboard for the stakes event. They have drawn just inside of My Due Process, the 5-2 favorite.
The NATC Futurity Fillies Division goes as race five on Saturday’s 11-race program.
