All 22 horses still under consideration for Kentucky Derby 2023, five potential new shooters plus an all-others option are the 28 choices facing bettors for the inaugural Preakness Stakes Future Wager starting Friday at noon EDT.

The pool will stay open until next Saturday at 6 p.m. EDT, about an hour before the Kentucky Derby is run at Churchill Downs.

Forte, the Derby favorite, is the 4-1 top choice on the morning line for Preakness betting. Tapit Trice is the 6-1 second choice, and Derma Sotogake and Practical Move are the co-third choices at 10-1 each.

Among the wagering options are two Kentucky Derby hopefuls who, based on points, could be excluded from the 20-stall starting gate at Churchill Downs: Cyclone Mischief and Mandarin Hero. Cyclone Mischief is 50-1 on the line, and Mandarin Hero, who finished second behind Practical Move in the Santa Anita Derby (G1), is 20-1.

Of those not pointing to the Kentucky Derby, First Mission is the shortest morning-line price, sporting a 15-1 chance off his win in the Lexington Stakes (G3) on April 15 at Keeneland. He is 1 of 6 horses from trainer Brad Cox, whose four Derby contenders plus Instant Coffee also could compete in the Preakness.

Wild On Ice, the gelding who suffered what turned out to be a fatal injury in training Thursday, had been on the Preakness list.

Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert is unable to compete in the Kentucky Derby because Churchill Downs Inc. suspended him from its facilities. He is eligible for the Preakness, which he has won seven times, but none of his horses is included in the future wager.
