Fayette Expected to Attract Nine

Keeneland stakes coordinator Allison De Luca has nine horses on her list of probable starters for Saturday’s 55th running of the $150,000 Fayette (G2), the closing-day feature of the 17-day Fall Meet.

The biggest name among the group is Chuck and Maribeth Sandford’s Take Charge Indy, winner of this spring’s Florida Derby (G1). Son of four-time Keeneland graded stakes winner Take Charge Lady, Take Charge Indy will be attempting to become the 11th 3-year-old to win the race and first since Blame in 2009.

Also considered probable for the Fayette, that was won last year by Wise Dan, are Sam-Son Farm’s Eye of the Leopard, the Millard R. Seldin Revocable Trust’s Golden Yank, Michael Bruder’s Guys Reward, G. Watts Humphrey Jr. and St. George Farm Racing’s Middie, James Karp’s Newsdad, Richard Sherman’s Nikki’s Sandcastle, and Wertheimer and Frere’s Salto (IRE) and Ashbrook Farm’s San Antone.

Considered as possible for the 1 1/8-mile main-track test is John Oxley’s Prospective.

Entries for the Fayette will be taken Wednesday.
