The Breeders' Cup on Friday announced Ulysses, the 7-2 morning line favorite for Saturday's $4 million Breeders' Cup Turf, has been scratched from the race upon advice from a track vet.
The 4-year-old son of Galileo appeared primed for a big run in the Turf after running fourth to Highland Reel last year. Connections skipped Ascot's recent Group 1 Champion Stakes to save him for this spot.
Highland Reel is back to defend his victory in the Turf while heading the European contingent, with Arlington Million and Joe Hirsch Turf Classic winner Beach Patrol the shortest-priced interest based in the United States.
The Turf runs as Race 11 on Saturday's Del Mar card just before the Classic featuring Gun Runner and Arrogate.
