Idle since Nov. 25, French-bred Fatale Bere rallied under eastern-based Joel Rosario to take Saturday’s Grade III, $150,000 Providencia Stakes by 1 ½ lengths.  Trained by Leonard Powell, she got a mile and one eighth over the Santa Anita turf in 1:47.48.
Fourth, about three lengths off pacesetter Ms Bad Behavior heading into the far turn, Fatale Bere wheeled three-wide turning for home as Rosario waited until she straightened to call upon her.  With an eye catching turn of foot, she leveled off and ran past Ms Bad Behavior for an impressive win.
Off at 7-1 in a field of eight sophomore fillies, Fatale Bere paid $17.80, $7.80 and $4.00.
“Leonard just told me to just let the horse relax," said winning jockey Joel Rosario. "Those were my only instructions. I just found a good spot, had him relax and let the horse do the rest. He started to pick it up on the turn and had a great burst of speed to overtake the other two. It’s nice to be back home. This is where I started and I’m just thankful for the opportunity to return with a chance to win.”
Owned by Benowitz Family Trust, Head of Plains Partners LLC, Mark Mathiesen and Mathilde Powell, Fatale Bere now has four wins from seven starts, with her last four races coming in Southern California.  With the winner’s share of $90,000, she increased her earnings to $212,619.
On the lead until deep stretch, Ms Bad Behavior finished 2 ¼ lengths clear of favored Paved.  Off at 9-5 with Kent Desormeaux, she paid $3.60 and $2.40.
Paved, was ridden by Drayden Van Dyke, was close to the pace throughout and lacked the necessary kick, finishing third, a neck in front of Pulpit Rider.  Off as the 7-5 favorite, Paved paid $2.40 to show.
Fractions on the race were 23.75, 47.78, 1:12.34 and 1:35.98.
