The last seven days have produced an exceptional collection of maiden winners, headlined by Doroteo's outstanding 123 HRN speed figure at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Twenty-eight horses broke their maidens with impressive performances, showcasing the talent pipeline that could produce tomorrow's champions. The week's standouts represent a diverse mix of trainers, bloodlines and racing surfaces from coast to coast.

Trainer Jose Camejo topped the leaderboard with Doroteo's 123 figure, and Hall of Fame conditioner Bill Mott showcased his versatility with Fort Nelson (116) and Practical Lov (112). Rodolphe Brisset contributed two winners with Fast Town earning 119 and Ibuki posting 107, highlighting his consistent success with developing horses. Other notable trainers making their mark include Kevin Attard with Boca Queen's 113 figure and Wayne Catalano with Shezalittlestinker's 112 performance.

The stallion influence reveals the continued dominance of proven bloodlines across multiple generations. Bolt d'Oro leads the way as sire of speed-figure leader Doroteo, and Speightstown's Fast Town posted the second-highest figure at 119. Bernardini's Fort Nelson earned 116, demonstrating the lasting impact of champion bloodlines. Modern sires such as Good Magic, Gun Runner, and Practical Joke also made their presence felt with quality winners.

Top performers

Doroteo earned the week's highest speed figure of 123 with an impressive victory at Horseshoe Indianapolis on July 1. The 3-year-old colt by Bolt d'Oro overcame a stumbling start to win by four lengths as the 3-5 favorite in his fourth career start under Marcelino Pedroza Jr. Trained by Jose Camejo for Stud Igual Racing, the colt showed his class by rallying along the rail and drawing off in the stretch. His dam Place Card provides solid female family credentials, making this breakthrough performance all the more significant for future development.

Fast Town posted a 119 HRN speed figure while breaking his maiden in style at Ellis Park on Sunday. The 3-year-old colt by Speightstown won by 1 1/2 lengths at 5-2 odds in his second career start for trainer Rodolphe Brisset. Jockey Luan Machado guided the WinStar Farm homebred through traffic, pressing the pace before dueling between rivals and edging clear late. His dam Fast Scene provides additional speed influences, and the combination of proven bloodlines with Brisset's training suggests continued improvement ahead.

Fort Nelson earned a 116 HRN speed figure in a determined victory at Saratoga on Friday. The 3-year-old colt by Bernardini showed tremendous heart under Junior Alvarado, winning by three-quarters of a length at 2-1 odds in his second career start. Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott for Godolphin, the colt led early before being pressed, then found another gear when challenged. His dam Seventh Street was a Grade 1 winner, and his half-brother Lake Avenue has earned over $574,000 at stakes level, indicating strong family credentials.

Boca Queen earned a 113 HRN speed figure with a professional debut performance at Woodbine on July 2. The 3-year-old filly by Kingman showed class in her first start, winning by 1 1/4 lengths at 3-1 odds under Rafael Hernandez for trainer Kevin Attard. The Irish-bred filly demonstrated tactical speed and a strong finishing kick that suggests she could develop into a useful stakes performer.

Notable breakthrough performances

Surprise broke through with a 105 HRN speed-figure victory at Horseshoe Indy on Thursday. The 3-year-old filly by Good Magic broke through in her third career start, winning by 3 1/2 lengths as the 2-5 favorite under Fernando De La Cruz for trainer Brad Cox. The LNJ Foxwoods homebred stalked the pace before rallying wide and drawing off with authority. Her dam Devious Intent was a Grade 3 winner, providing the classy pedigree that finally translated to the racetrack.

Tom Collins required patience but finally delivered with a 101 HRN speed figure at Saratoga on Friday. The 4-year-old colt by Frosted broke his maiden in his ninth career start, winning by a nose at 8-1 odds on the turf under Irad Ortiz Jr. for trainer Shug McGaughey. The Phipps Stable homebred showed speed early before being well-rated, then responded when asked in the stretch to just hold off late challengers. His persistence finally paid off with this breakthrough performance on the lawn.

Ewing announced his arrival with a dominant 99 HRN speed figure in his debut at Saratoga on Saturday. The 2-year-old colt by Knicks Go destroyed his competition by 12 lengths as the 1-5 favorite under Jose Ortiz for trainer Mark Casse. Despite brushing the gate at the start, the youngster quickly recovered and cruised to an impressive victory with minimal urging. His overwhelming superiority in this debut suggests significant potential for the juvenile season ahead.
