Last week delivered an impressive collection of maiden winners, with 30 horses posting notable speed figures while breaking their maidens across various tracks.

Leading the charge was Fielding, who posted a commanding 120 HRN speed figure while winning by more than 10 lengths at Laurel Park. The 3-year-old gelding by Street Sense demonstrated impressive staying power in his second career start, rating kindly before pulling away decisively in the stretch.

Trainers leading the maiden ranks

Mark Casse produced the impressive filly Gin's Beach Road, who earned a 112 HRN speed figure at Churchill Downs while overcoming early trouble. Chad Brown contributed Fully Booked, who demonstrated patience with a narrow victory at Monmouth Park after a perfectly timed rally.

Jonathan Maldonado reached the top of the ratings with Fielding's dominant performance, while veteran trainers such as Shug McGaughey and Bill Mott also made their mark with promising juveniles.

Sire influence

Street Sense led the way as sire of speed figure leader Fielding, and Quality Road was represented by the well-bred Gin's Beach Road. Into Mischief continues his sire excellence with All Night Revival, who needed six starts to break through but did so impressively on the turf.

Uncle Mo's influence appears through Fulleffort, who carries exceptional family credentials as the half-brother to Power Squeeze. Speightstown, Spun to Run and Maclean's Music all are represented by two fast firsters.

Fastest firsters

Fielding, 120 HRN speed figure

Three-year-old gelding Fielding earned the week's top speed figure of 120 with his impressive victory at Laurel Park on Sunday. By Street Sense out of One Night, this Jonathan Maldonado-trained gelding overcame 21-1 odds to win going away by 10 1/4 lengths in a one-mile maiden claimer on dirt. J.G. Torrealba guided the long shot to victory in the nine-horse field, with the gelding's running comment noting he "rated inside, handled outer pressure, asked in the upper stretch, eager to widen, driving." The margin of victory and speed figure in his second career start suggest this gelding has found his niche and could develop into a useful route horse.

On the Level, 119

On the Level posted a 119 speed figure while dominating a maiden special weight at Delaware Park on Thursday by 3 1/4 lengths. By Classic Empire out of Siena Grace, this 3-year-old colt carries quality breeding for trainer Keri Brion. Sent off as the overwhelming even-money favorite with Jaime Rodriguez aboard for Three Diamonds Farm, the colt delivered with authority over six furlongs on dirt in his second career start. His tactical speed showed as he "stalked in fifth position, bid four paths at the five-sixteenths, commanded at the quarter pole, drew clear in the final eighth," suggesting his natural ability has finally come through after a learning experience in his debut.

Gin's Beach Road, 112

Three-year-old filly Gin's Beach Road posted a 112 speed figure in her third career start at Churchill Downs on Sunday, winning by 5 1/4 lengths at 2-1 odds in a six-furlong maiden special weight on dirt. By Quality Road out of the Grade 1-winning mare Yellow Agate, this Mark Casse-trained filly is a full sister to Agate Road, a Grade 2 winner who has earned $316,000. Jose Ortiz guided the Live Oak Plantation homebred to victory in the 12-horse field, with her running style showing determination as she was "bumped at the start, prompted in second, took over in the upper stretch, drew off." The combination of proven breeding, quality connections and improvement in her third start suggests this filly could develop into a stakes contender.

All Night Revival, 112

All Night Revival earned a 112 speed figure while breaking through in her seventh career start at Monmouth Park on Saturday. By Into Mischief out of Always On My Mind, this Cherie DeVaux-trained filly finally found her best form on the turf, winning by a quarter-length at 9-2 odds under Sonny Leon. The John D. Gunther homebred showed patience as she was "off the pace inside, three-wide at the quarter pole, rallied three-wide, kicked in late, surged to win" over 1 1/16 miles on firm turf. The breakthrough performance after six previous attempts suggests this 3-year-old filly has found her preferred surface and distance combination.

Fulleffort, 103

Fulleffort earned a 103 speed figure when breaking his maiden in his third career start at Kentucky Downs on Wednesday. By Liam's Map out of Callmethesqueeze, this Brad Cox-trained 2-year-old colt is a half-brother to Power Squeeze, a Grade 1 winner who has earned $1.03 million. Fulleffort won by one length at 4-5 odds under Flavien Prat, showing tactical speed as he "bumped at the break, stalked between horses in second and third, four-wide at the three-eighths, steady gain, drove past" over one mile on firm turf. The combination of Cox's proven ability with young horses, the colt's impressive family connections and his solid figure suggest Fulleffort could develop into a serious juvenile turf prospect who may follow his successful half-sister into stakes company.

Spun D M C, 103

Five-star first-timer Spun D M C posted a 103 speed figure in his winning debut at Churchill Downs on Friday. By Spun to Run out of Critic's Choice, this Randy Morse-trained colt overcame 12-1 starting odds to win by 2 1/2 lengths under Jane Elliott in a six-furlong maiden special weight on dirt. The UPcountry Farm and Morse color bearer showed early speed as he was "prompt and three-wide, vied at the turn, drove clear in the upper stretch, held sway" in the 12-horse field. The impressive debut figure and ability to handle a large field suggest this juvenile could develop into a useful dirt sprinter with natural speed to burn.
