J. Romans and Zoom and Fish Stable, Inc.’s Fasnacloich came with a powerful three-wide run around the turn before drawing off to a nearly two-length win in the $42,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Friday.

Trained by Hamilton Smith, Fasnacloich covered the mile over firm turf in 1:35 4/5 and returned $4.60, $3 and $2.80.  Almost An Angel completed the $23.80 exacta and paid $7.60 and $3.60.  It was another 4 ¼ lengths back to Stormy N’ Sly, who paid $5.60 to show.

“I got the best trip,” said winning jockey Victor Carrasco, who’s been aboard for three of the filly’s five wins.  “I sat just in behind the speed and tried to do what I did with her last time.  It all worked out perfectly.”

A 4-year-old daughter of Any Given Saturday from the Skinko Forest mare Glorificamus, Fasnacloich has now won four of her five lifetime starts on turf.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, July 12 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.
