The event will run from 12 p.m.-6p.m. CT in the Fair Grounds tent near the apron with food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase as well as an auction. Live music will be provided by Rick Mocklin and the Southern Voice Band. There also will be a meet and greet with the jockeys from 5 p.m.-6 p.m.
The event is named in honor of jockey Corey Lanerie’s late wife, who passed away due to complications of breast cancer in June of last year.
“It’s a good cause to raise money for breast cancer research,” Lanerie said. “It’s great to bring awareness to everyone and to keep my wife’s memory alive in her name and raising some money for her. It feels good to do something that could help somebody in the future.
"It’s a great cause and makes your heart feel good.”
The mission statement of the foundation is “Education, Preparation & Dedication to Helping Women.” More information on the Shantel Lanerie Foundation could be found at https://shantellaneriefoundation.com.
