Fair Grounds cancels Sunday racing due to heavy rain in forecast

Due to storms that are expected to bring heavy rain, Fair Grounds will not race Sunday.

The cancellation was announced by Joe Kristufek on the Louisiana Derby (G2) draw show on the Fair Grounds live stream. Kristufek said that extra races would be added to the cards next Saturday and Sunday as a result. Fair Grounds draws next Saturday's card on Saturday and will draw next Sunday's card on Sunday. Next Sunday is closing day of the meet.

Forecasters for the National Weather Service predict a 20 percent chance of rain overnight from Saturday into Sunday, with a 100 percent chance of rain Sunday. New rainfall on Sunday is expected to be between one and two inches.

Racing will resume at Fair Grounds Wednesday with an eight-race card that begins at 1:45 p.m. EDT. The card features three allowance races including two for open company, as well as a maiden special weight turf mile for 3-year-olds.
