Marcia LaMarche’s Anything But Quiet heard the roar of the crowd Saturday afternoon at Fair Grounds when she lit up the tote board with mutuels of $120, $44.60 and $16.80 after winning the 37th renewal of the $60,000 Happy Ticket Stakes.

Trained by Carl Woodley and ridden by Billy Patin, Anything But Quiet slipped through along the rail in the stretch run to outgame Oak Tree Stables’ Yare by a neck in the late stages of the five and a half furlong sprint, recording a final time of 1:06.40 over the sloppy going while increasing her career earnings to $241,811 with her fifth win in 27 lifetime starts.

Yare paid $9.60 and $7.40, while John Duvieilh and Keith and Earl Hernandez’ Alphadoodle got up for third, four lengths farther back.  Southern Equine Stables’ Cajun Conference set early fractions of 22.12 and 46.54 before weakening to finish fifth.

Earlier in the afternoon, Carl Moore Management’s Power Surge rallied boldly under jockey Jamie Theriot when set down for the drive to win the $60,000 John E. Jackson Jr. Memorial Stakes for older accredited Louisiana-breds by three-quarters of a length.

The winner paid $7.60, $3.80 and $2.40, accomplished the five and a half furlongs over sloppy going in 1:04.96 and increased his career earnings to $420,910 with his 10th victory in 32 lifetime starts.

Maggi Moss’s Mr. Porter, also without speed, rallied into contention in mid-stretch, could not stay with the winner but was easily second best.  Mr. Porter returned $4.80 and $2.40, while Valene Farms’ Lee City Slew made the pace with early splits of  21.82 and 45.92 before tiring behind the top two, but held on to pay $2.20 in the show spot.
