On The Mark Racing and Doug Matthews’ Broken Trust Fund, ridden by seven-time Fair Grounds’ jockey champion Robby Albarado and trained by Doug Matthews, out-fought Frank O’Connor’s Jones Zing by a neck in Sunday’s feature attraction at Fair Grounds, a $49,000 allowance test for fillies and mares run at about 1 1/16-miles over a Stall-Wilson turf course rated “good.”

The winner, a sophomore daughter of Broken Vow, was allowed to settle, launched her bid when set down for the drive and increased her career earnings to $77,064 with her third victory in 13 lifetime starts. She toured the distance in 1:45.72 and paid $10.80, $5.20 and $3.40.

Jones Zing returned $7 and $4.80 while finishing 3 1/4-lengths in front of Agave Racing Stable and Susan Moulton’s Vee, who paid $4.  Joseph O’Brien’s Bill’s Presence made the pace with splits of 24.14 and 48.62 but could not sustain the bid.

There was no single-ticket winner in the Black Gold 5 today, meaning there will be a $19,088 carryover when live racing resumes Wednesday at Fair Grounds with a nine-race program beginning at 12:40 p.m.
