Enchanting Lisa Finds a Home on the Dirt
Enchanting Lisa, the 4-year-old half-sister to two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan, found the winner’s circle for the first time since her debut in June 2013 at Presque Isle Downs by romping to a 3½-length triumph in Wednesday’s ninth race over the Beard Course of seven furlongs, 184 feet.
“That was nice. We finally figured out her deal was dirt,” trainer Charlie LoPresti said. “(Jockey) Jose Lezcano told me at Saratoga to put her on the dirt and cut her back (in distance) and nobody could beat her.”
After breaking her maiden at a mile and 70 yards over an all-weather surface, Enchanting Lisa made her next six starts in two-turn races on the grass.
“(Jockey) Rosie (Napravnik) said yesterday she didn’t have to do a thing,” LoPresti said. “We will see how she comes out of it and maybe look at the Chilukki.”
The $200,000-added Chilukki (G2) is a one-turn mile on the dirt at Churchill Downs on Nov. 1.
As for Enchanting Lisa’s brother, Wise Dan returned to the main track for an early morning Thursday. Winner of Saturday’s $1 million Shadwell Turf Mile (G1), Wise Dan had jogged on Keeneland’s training track Wednesday morning.
